“For me the most fascinating aspect of painting in oil is the startling effect a thick multicolored stroke of paint can have. It can resemble a human gesture, wind swept grass, a field of sunny flowers, the crack of a bat, or waves in a storm...Many of my images depict the subjects I have observed most often, know well, and feel comfortable recreating in paint."

- Lark MacPhail

Lark MacPhail is a Maryland artist working primarily in oil on canvas.  Her subject matter covers a wide range from floral and figurative to still life and landscape.  The style she uses has a modern impressionist vibe which she achieves working mainly from life in a studio or outside in plein air.

She holds the subjects of her paintings near to her heart, often painting the people and places in the area surrounding her home in Owings Mills, Maryland, or finding inspiration in her extensive travels.

Lark MacPhail has been involved in the art world in a variety of ways throughout her career, including teaching art to high school students and working for the art department of an award-winning advertising agency. As a Maryland impressionist artist, Lark is a member of the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association, the Women Artists' Forum, Oil Painters of America, and currently paints with a group of plein air artists.
